Music

Theatre of the Real

We work with music because we need to; it’s the marrow of this company and the reason Someoddpilot exists in the first place. The Creative Director’s first ever design was a cassette insert for his high-school garage band. From there, he continued designing album covers and flyers for locals bands before founding this company in 1999. When bridging music and design, everything had to be authentic 100% of the time. We quickly learned from indie music fans (our first audience, and possibly the most discerning group on the planet) that people can smell bullshit from a mile away. This forced us to be truth-tellers through and through, arbiters of the artificial and the real.

The lesson proved to be invaluable in framing how we construct and deliver stories. In order to be heard, communication requires a massive and honest vision: shapes, sounds and sights on a grand scale. It’s true of any company or brand looking to have a place in our culture. And that’s what we’ve built our business to do.

The Beat Goes On

Our business has come a long way since 1999 — so has music! — but we are as committed as ever to supporting the music community in Chicago and beyond. Whether we’re hiring deserving artists to soundtrack our videos, building new sites for our favorite venues, or programming avant garde festivals like VIA Chicago, we are still here, and we want to dance with you.
